Three Reasons To Invest in a Pool House

So the first (and pretty obvious) reason why a homeowner would be interested in owning a pool house is simply because he/she has a backyard pool in the first place. (Granted, you can still invest in a good pool house without having a pool, but it will essentially just be a… garden shed.)

That being said, there are still a few really good reasons why it may be to your advantage to invest in one of these outdoor wooden structures:

  1. First, outdoor pool houses are essentially just large sheds that look nice and which hold a bunch of outdoor pool accessories — i.e., all of the pool toys and blowup floating doughnuts that have always smelled like chlorine and will continue to smell like chlorine until the end of time.Install a small bathroom/changing room in the pool house, and you also have a place to store all those chlorine-riddled bathing suits and towels, too. You’ll no longer have trails of pool water through the house because someone has to use the bathroom every 10 minutes.
  2. Second, a lot of homeowners end up using their pool houses actively during the summer months (e.g., for changing rooms and/or bathrooms), but during the winter months, these structures turn into great storage facilities for bulky outdoor furniture, gardening tools, etc. — basically all the things that will only be used when it’s warm out.
  3. And third, when you have a backyard pool, you’ll also have quite a few chemicals and cleaning solutions that can be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands (specifically, into the small hands of small children who cannot read and don’t understand the red Toxic If Ingested warning label). If you have a pool and you also have small children — as it happens, the two are often found together — then you’ll definitely want a safe place in which to store these dangerous chemicals.Unlike a basement or a garage, a pool house is often much easier to lock up when not in use, and kids are less likely to see these chemicals and feel the urge to find out what they taste like.

As an added bonus, if you ever decide to sell your house at some point, it isn’t hard to take down a pool house or convert it into an all-purpose storage shed or extra living space; something that versatile could make it easier to sell the house and/or could add value to the property.

Now you’ve heard a few simple advantages of owning a pool house, but what are your thoughts? Any reasons that haven’t been listed, or maybe alternative storage options that are better investments than pool houses? Be sure to let us know in the comments section!
